Counselling & Psychotherapy
-
I provide a compassionate, non-judgmental place where clients can come to learn about themselves and grow. Through the client and therapist working together, meaningful change can occur.
-
Dedication and excellent training are necessary for psychotherapy to be effective. I use empirically proven techniques, including psychodynamic therapy, person-centered, and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques.
-
Psychotherapy can help not only relieve symptoms like anxiety and depression, it can also truly change a person — allowing one to feel a greater sense of self-esteem and experience more enriching relationships.
-
I welcome people from all backgrounds and races, genders and sexual orientations, ages, classes, religions, and ethnicities; I strive to be sensitive to all of the issues - both individual and cultural - that people from various backgrounds encounter.
About me
Throughout my working life I have been involved in enabling people to grow and change. In addition to working as a psychotherapist, I have a background in healthcare. I have worked in a variety of settings (including mental health and psychiatric settings), as a registered nurse and Nurse Case Manager for over 25 years. I have recent experience working on the front line as a nurse and a counsellor during the Coronavirus pandemic and understand the struggles essential staff are experiencing first hand and how this is impacting on mental health and relationships. In addition, I have expertise and knowledge of counselling brain and catastrophic injury survivors and their families and have experience working at the brain Injury charity “Headway”.
-
I am a BACP Accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with experience working with clients in a variety of settings.
-
I am committed to delivering client-centred that gradually empowers individuals and enables them to make informed decisions.
-
I possess a detailed understanding of the BACP professional conduct and ethical framework and apply such standards in interactions with clients and hold an up-to-date clear DBS check.
In addition to my formal training, I am a SCUBA diving instructor and believe in the healing powers of water. I am currently researching the benefits of combining my therapeutic practice with either being in the sea or being by the sea.

How I work
-
I have sound knowledge of the theoretical counselling approaches and their application to real world settings; having a special interest in Integrative Counselling, CBT, Gestalt, psychodynamic and person-centred approaches.
-
I typically work with clients on an individual basis, dealing with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, stress, depression, relationship problems, loss or bereavement, drug or alcohol abuse, and many of life’s other challenges.
-
The length of time clients work with me can vary according to the needs of each person and includes both longer term psychotherapeutic work and short term solution focused counselling. Short term counselling will usually last 6 - 12 sessions whilst working psychotherapeutically at greater depth will take longer. The number of sessions and approach will be discussed during our introductory session, and can be adapted to suit your needs.
FAQs
What to Expect and FAQs
Initial Consultation Session
Prospective clients are encouraged to contact me to schedule an initial consultation session. This session consists of reviewing the Informed Consent and policies for therapy, discussing reasons for seeking treatment, and collectively determining whether I will be a good fit for your ongoing treatment. I do not offer a free initial consultation session but strongly recommend arranging a 15-minute brief phone consultation prior to scheduling an initial session.
Duration of Treatment
Early in treatment, I will work with clients to mutually decide upon goals and objectives for treatment. The overall duration of treatment can be decided upon by the client and myself and should be based upon the unique needs and objective(s) of each person seeking treatment. Some clients benefit from and prefer short-term therapy while others prefer a long-term approach. Feel free to discuss your preferences with my directly. Sessions are 50 minutes in length.
Ending Treatment
Your treatment is voluntary. Therefore, know that you have the option of discontinuing therapy at any time. Typically, completion of treatment is a mutual decision and occurs upon successful completion of your objectives and goals for treatment.

I accept referrals from most major health insurance companies. Please check with your provider that I am affiliated beforehand.
Cancellation Policy
I require a 48-hour notice of cancellation in order to avoid a full payment fee for a missed session.
